WAR DOCTOR
"Santa?"
The Doctor looked up. A little girl with blonde hair was looking at him. The Doctor put down his tools (he had just been changing the bulb on the TARDIS roof) and smiled.
"Not for another few days yet I believe."
The little girl smiled.
"But you have a beard and a magic box. Who else could you be?" The girl laughed and ran off. The Doctor laughed a little.
Do I really have a beard? he thought. The Doctor climbed down the ladder he had placed aganist the TARDIS and looked around. The TARDIS had chosen to land on the planet Siguras. A peaceful planet with a small human colony. The planet was covered in long fields of red grass like the one the TARDIS was parked in. The Doctor liked it. It reminded him of home. Home before the war. He shook his head. He had come here to forget all that. He had decided to take no further part in the war. He would not take any further part. He would take another life. He had come to Siguras to retire. Gallifrey and Skaro were millions of lightyears away, the blood, the tears, the death. All of it far far away. The Doctor had already gained a bit of a reputation in the few short months he had been here. People came to him with their problems and he fixed them. It was good to be an actual Doctor for once.
A few hours later, the Doctor was sat with a steaming mug of tea in one of the comfortable armchairs by the fire in the library. The Doctor leaned back and smiled. Yes. He could get used to this. At this a knock echoed through the TARDIS. Another problem he needed to solve. The Doctor made his way to the TARDIS doors and opened them. A young woman was stood there. She had shoulder length brown hair and was wearing a simple Tank top and jeans.
"Excuse me? Doctor? Hi. My names Claudia and there's something that I need you to see."
"What?"
"Something fell out of the sky. We sent someone to have a look but they never returned. We need you to have a look."
"Very well." said the Doctor.
Claudia led him to a small hovercar. She and the Doctor climbed in and drove away.
Sometime later, they arrived at the crash site. The Doctor climbed out. He walked to the wreckage, it was burning, spiting hot cruel flames into the sky.
"Impossible... not here..." The Doctor murmured.
"What is it?" Claudia asked.
"Death. Death in a metal shell."
The Doctor grabbed a torch from Claudia's car and made his way into the wreckage. Claudia stumbled after him.
"Stay here." The Doctor whispered.
"Why? You're not the boss of me Grandpa."
The Doctor couldn't help but smile.
"Very well. But make sure you do what I say. If I tell you to run and leave this ship and me behind you must understand?"
Claudia nodded.
The Doctor led the way through the wreckage.
"Where are we going?" asked Claudia.
"To the crash vault. If something survived... we need to know."
The Doctor reached a huge black metal door. He reached a nearby computer console and buzzed it with his screwdriver. He had to know. He had to know. The Door slowly opened. He stepped inside. And his heart dropped when he saw the occupant. The Dalek looked up at the Doctor.
"Identify yourself!" It screeched.
The Doctor turned to look at Claudia. She looked confused, of course her planet would have no knoelwdge of the Daleks.
"Run Claudia. Just run. Run. Now!"
She ran without question. The Doctor turned back to the Dalek.
"State your identity!" It shouted.
"I... am the Doctor."
The Dalek backed up.
"You will be exterminated!" It cried.
"Go on then. Try it. Because I have nothing left to live for. Except this. Killing you and saving these people. A good final act for the Doctor don't you think?"
The Doctor pulled wires out of the walls causing several alarms to blare.
"Explain your actions!"
"I'm overloading this ship. And it's going to blow." The Doctor began to leave the room.
"Exterminate! Exterminate! Exterminate!!"
But the Doctor was already out of range. He exited the ship and walked to Claudia who was stood near her car.
"What was that thing?"
"It doesn't matter."
The ship blew up. The Doctor turned and watched it burn. Then the Dalek rose from the flames. It looked down at the Doctor.
"This world and its inhabitants mean much to you, Doctor. Now watch them die!"
The Dalek flew off in the direction of the colony.
"No!" The Doctor dashed into the car. "Drive Claudia drive!"
They speeded off in the direction of the colony.
When they arrived the Dalek stood in the centre of the town. The colony was burning. The Doctor fell to his knees. A burning doll belonging to a girl the Doctor had once cured of fever rolled past. The Doctor looked up at the Dalek.
"It's always going to be like this isn't it? Everytime I try and get away, you'll come and bring me back. Back to the insanity. Back to the death. Back to the fire. Back to the war. Well this is it. I will no longer watch you burn and destroy. I will no longer watch you kill. I will watch it no more. You hear me? NO MORE!!"
The Doctor stood up and looked hard at the Dalek. It said nothing. It simply rose up and flew away into the stars. The Doctor watched it go.
"Where is it going?" asked Claudia.
"No doubt to join the other Daleks. And it will kill countless more. Unless I stop them."
Claudia walked and stood, arms around her chest looking at the burning colony.
"Everyone I've ever known... is dead. I should be sad. Instead I feel... nothing." She turned to the Doctor. "I have nothing left."
"Claudia, I can take you to another planet. You can find a new home."
"What's the point?! Everyone is dead. And the Daleks will just kill those who aren't, like you said."
Claudia looked at the Doctor, a sad look in her eyes.
"Take me wherever. Just... promise me that you'll stop them."
The Doctor looked at her.
"I promise."
Claudia walked into the strange spaceport. The Time War refugee station was close by. When she turned to look at the TARDIS, it was gone.
The Doctor stood at the controls. Determination surged through him. He listened to the distress call.
"Message for the High Council, Priority Omega! Arcadia has fallen! I repeat! Arcadia has fallen!"
The Doctor set the coordinates. He knew what he had to do.
"No more" he whispered.
"No more. No more. NO MORE."
The Doctor looked up. A little girl with blonde hair was looking at him. The Doctor put down his tools (he had just been changing the bulb on the TARDIS roof) and smiled.
